Lower School Spanish Teacher Leave Replacement

Keys School, a K–8 independent school in Palo Alto serving approximately 320 students, seeks a Lower School Spanish Teacher for a temporary leave replacement role (August 13–November 20, 2026, with possible extension). The school emphasizes inquiry-based learning and whole-child development, including academic, social-emotional, and identity growth.

Role Overview:
The Spanish Teacher is responsible for designing, delivering, and refining a developmentally appropriate K–4 Spanish curriculum aligned with the school’s mission. This includes creating interdisciplinary, culturally responsive units that integrate social-emotional learning (SEL) and promote student agency. The role requires collaboration with faculty across disciplines and active participation in the broader school community.

Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement engaging Spanish instruction using methods such as storytelling, games, and Total Physical Response (TPRS).
Design interdisciplinary, project-based curriculum using frameworks like Understanding by Design (UbD).
Use formative and summative assessments to differentiate instruction.
Collaborate with homeroom teachers and specialists to create integrated learning experiences.
Communicate regularly with families through meetings, newsletters, and digital platforms.
Participate in school life, including events, duties, and professional development.

Qualifications:
Fluency in Spanish and experience teaching elementary-aged students.
Strong understanding of child development and commitment to social-emotional learning and DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion).
Experience with responsive, student-centered pedagogy and authentic assessment practices.
Excellent communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.
Bachelor’s degree required; teaching credential or training preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in education or related field.
5+ years of teaching experience.
Familiarity with Responsive Classroom, project-based learning, and culturally responsive teaching practices.
