Our Mission
Keys School challenges students to develop a keen intellect and a generous spirit, to advocate for themselves and others, and to honor curiosity and reflection in an increasingly hurried world.
We champion the well-being of our community, embrace our diverse identities, celebrate the power of our transformative K-8 experience, and expand our impact.
Priorities:
- Honor and celebrate the unique identities of every community member while developing students’ understanding of who they are in relation to themselves, their classmates, the school, the broader community, and the world
- Enhance our unwavering commitment to social-emotional development and equity, inclusion, and diversity to foster the well-being of our students, faculty, and staff
- Invest in connections between all grades to support a unified Keys community, demonstrating the unique strength of our K-8 experience
- Create authentic relationships with mission-aligned organizations in our neighborhood and in the greater Bay Area to broaden student learning opportunities, share resources, and deepen our connections in the community
We empower students to meet themselves, each other, and their communities with confidence, intelligence, and empathy, and to be ready to advocate for themselves and others, in order to embrace the emerging challenges of our ever-changing world.
Priorities:
- Inextricably weave emotional intelligence into our curriculum and program design to cultivate critical thinking, empathy, and cultural humility
- Assess and enhance our research-based program and teaching practices as appropriate to ensure they foster academic challenge, drive inclusivity, and support each student’s learning journey.
- Expand our existing professional development program to offer new opportunities that facilitate faculty and staff growth and enhance our whole child philosophy
- Cultivate an educational environment that empowers students to become active and compassionate citizens by integrating community outreach, experiential learning, and service learning opportunities into our curriculum
- Invest in the recruitment and retention of highly skilled and diverse faculty and staff who are mission-aligned, student-centered, embody a growth mindset and are motivated to continually refresh their learning

- Improve learning spaces in alignment with our mission, programming, and community connection goals, ensuring exceptional experiences for students and teachers
- Design and implement a long-term strategy to explore options for campus development while prioritizing environmental sustainability and stewardship
We ensure the long-term financial sustainability of Keys School through strong resource growth to uphold the excellence of our curriculum and program, and enable our community to flourish.
Priorities:
- Strengthen our financial position by championing our culture of philanthropy and growing our endowment
- Provide our employees a highly competitive salary and benefits package as recognition for their exceptional talent and commitment to children and community
- Build upon our financial assistance program and other initiatives to ensure equitable access for families who would like to consider a Keys School education for their child
- Ensure long-term viability by assessing the tuition model and exploring opportunities for additional revenue streams

2024-2025 Board of Trustees
As an independent school accredited by the California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS), Keys School is governed by an elected Board of Trustees. The Board acts as the guardian of the school’s mission, monitoring the success of the school in fulfilling its mission and ensuring that it remains relevant and vital to the community it serves, provides financial oversight of the school’s operations, and supports long-term strategic planning.
