8th Grade Moot Court and Capitol Visit!
April 24, 2026
8th grade students took their learning beyond the classroom, meeting with Assemblymember Marc Berman at the state Capitol to present and advocate for immigration bills they’ve been researching.
As part of their social studies unit, students also engaged in a moot court experience, arguing real constitutional cases in the presence of community volunteer judges. This year, they examined both sides of Obergefell v. Hodges, the landmark Supreme Court case that legalized same-sex marriage nationwide, researching and strategizing from the actual legal arguments presented. They then connected their studies to the judicial system by meeting with Justice Elena Duarte, gaining insight into the appellate courts as an extension of their earlier unit on moot court and constitutional law.
