Builders, Caregivers, and Frontline Responders!

Last week’s D-Day buddy activity brought students together across grade levels to read “We Are the Builders!” by Deepa Iyer. The story introduces the many roles people play in creating positive change, inspired by Iyer’s Social Change Ecosystem Map. Through engaging rhymes, the book shows how individuals can support their communities as builders, caregivers, frontline responders, and more, highlighting that everyone has an important role in strengthening a community. After reading, buddy groups worked together to decorate their shared buddy journals with badges representing these roles. The activity encouraged students to reflect on how they can embody the values of builders, caregivers, and frontline responders in their own school community while strengthening connections with their buddies!
